Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is now relevant to some sole traders and landlords. From 6 April 2026, qualifying sole traders and landlords with total annual qualifying income from self-employment and property of more than £50,000 must use MTD for Income Tax.
The threshold is scheduled to reduce to more than £30,000 from April 2027 and more than £20,000 from April 2028. Those within MTD must use compatible software to maintain relevant digital records, send quarterly updates and complete their tax return through the MTD process.
